2023 - Order From Noise: Electronic & Sound Art Evening between Taiwan and Germany

An evening concert and performance event bringing together 5 innovative sound art projects at the Cultural Church St. Gertrud. Featuring 4 young representatives from Taiwan and 3 from Cologne, the event sets new impulses in contemporary sound art and promotes cultural exchange. The artists create unique soundscapes that invite listeners to explore boundary areas of sonic perception.

2024 - LISTENING SLOWLY, Yen Tzu Chang (TW)

Listening Slowly is a sound installation that delves into the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural world, with a specific focus on bats. Inspired by Yen Tzu Chang’s collaborations with ecologists and scholars in Taiwan, the work explores how human imagination shapes our connection to these creatures. Through sound, visual, and behavioral dimensions, the installation examines bats in the context of myth, culture, and symbolism, highlighting how imaginative thinking can influence conservation efforts and our affinity for nature.

This work was previously presented at the Formosan Golden Bat’s Home (goldenbat.org.tw) in Taiwan. The artist donated bat houses from Taiwan to NABU Cologne.

2024 – Growling, Jiyun Park (KR/DE)

Growling is a sound installation consisting of a latex membrane and embedded transducers. Inspired by the communication systems of non-human species, this project focuses on animals with special signalling characteristics such as amphibians, birds, fish and even plants. By interweaving real and imaginary signals, both digital and analogue, the vibrations of the sounds are transmitted to the membrane, creating a collective voice.

The installation was created during the residency programme at Petrohradská kolektiv in Prague 2023.

2022 – Rotating Lights

In his first solo exhibition in Cologne, Stefan Tiefengraber creates an immersive space in purist aesthetics with the light kinetic installation rotating lights. With his work he enters into a dialogue with the polygonal architecture typical for the 1970s of the Ebertplatzpassage, which is illuminated with wet room lights.

rotating lights is one part of the group of works Noise / Light / Seoul. The installation was created during a 6-month artist residency at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art 국립 현대 미술관 (MMCA) in Seoul, Korea.

2019 - Neigungsgruppe Medienfassade

As part of the program "Out of the Box – The Midlife Crisis of the Digital Revolution," I curated and coordinated a series of site-specific media facade interventions with the Neigungsgruppe Medienfassade of KHM Cologne (exMedia). The large-scale LED facade of the Ars Electronica Center served as a public resonance space for artistic engagements with the body, data politics, perception, and digital infrastructures.

The exhibited works ranged from touch-sensitive installations and data-driven visualizations to references to art historical languages of form. Together with the students, media-critical, political, and experimental approaches were developed and performatively activated in urban spaces. I was responsible for the dramaturgical supervision, technical mediation, coordination with the AEC, and the content-related support of the artistic processes.

2018 – Old News From New Friends

"Old News from New Friends" was a performance and exhibition format initiated and curated by me, presented in the Deep Space 8K of the Ars Electronica Center Linz, making its debut in June 2018 as part of the Deep Space LIVE event series. In collaboration with the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, an evening-long program was developed that deliberately broke with expectations of a high-resolution presentation space.

The core focus was on how technological overwhelming can be subverted through conscious reduction, irritation, and performative strategies. The featured works ranged from electroacoustic live performances to audiovisual interventions and installation-based setups.

The project was also showcased in September 2018 as a contribution to the Ars Electronica Festival, reaching an international professional audience.
